Civic Engagement at Wichita State University

It has been argued that the role of higher education is to produce an informed citizenry able to meet the challenges and demands of an evolving global society. Higher education should be able to support the development of individuals to be productive citizens in their communities. Civic engagement experiences are a means to facilitate and prepare students to be informed and engaged citizens of the democracy. Civic engagement allows students to express thoughts and ideas while applying the curriculum to strengthening our communities. The intended outcomes of civic engagement are many and include intellectual growth through the application of knowledge, and critical thinking.
