Involvement at WSU
Involvement at WSU means engaging in out of the classroom experiences that provides opportunities to interact with other students, faculty and staff. Getting involved in campus life can be participating in student clubs and organizations, attending campus activities events, working with students and faculty members on service learning projects, or attending special lectures, forms, or events on campus.
WSU students have created organizations that range from creative writing and publishing, to the appreciation of animation and comics. No doubt that the over 200 student clubs are diverse and can provide you will an unforgettable experience as a Shocker! Of course if you can’t find a student organization that meets your interest, you can always start one of your own.
Why Should I get Involved?
Getting involved is key to your satisfaction with your WSU experience. Involvement in campus activities helps students gain important skills. Skills learned through involvement are, oral and written communication skills, decision-making skills, self-confidence, organization skills, resourcefulness, and responsibility. Joining a student organization at Wichita State University offers many advantages that you might not get if you're not involved, such as:
• Make life long friendships.
• Teaches how to work with people in committees.
• Gives insight on different people's perspectives.
• Teaches teamwork and cooperation
• Teach time management and negotiation
How do I begin my journey?
• Visit the directory of student organizations. You will be able to view their upcoming events and programs, list of officers and emails, or request information.
• Stop by the CSL, (located in the lower level of the RSC, room 008) meet student leaders who can provide resources and information to help you get involved on campus.
• Check out involvement fairs:
o Activities Fair: Held during the first full week of class during the fall semester. The Activities Fair allows you to meet student organizations and university departments and learn about their organization mission, values, and membership requirements.
o Volunteer Fair: Held during the fall and spring semesters, the volunteer fair brings community organizations to campus as they seek volunteers for their agencies and programs.
• University Calendar: The university calendar is updated regularly with campus wide events that range from campus traditions to presentations by prominent faculty and leaders.
• Sunflower Newspaper
• SPEND TIME on campus and you will find many student organizations and activities that will spark your interest!
