Sports Daily broadcast

Broadcasters bring their show to WSU

Local sports personalities Bob Lutz and Bruce Haertl aired their Sports Daily KFH Radio show live from Elliott Hall Wednesday morning. Sports Daily has long supported ESC students with scholarships and opportunities, and before the show, they congratulated 10 Sports Daily scholarship recipients.

Oustanding Alum presents news biz know-how

In "Are You Ready for the News Business? Is It Ready for You?" 2009 Outstanding Alum Sara Quinn discussed what media organizations are looking for from potential employees in a changing industry. The presentation highlighted several examples of successful communication storytellers, including: Washington Post photojournalist Jahi Chikwendiu, Matthews Record Managing Editor James Denk and the New York Times' multi-media storytelling team.

ESC students

Before his evening event at the Metroplex, John Stossel stopped by the Elliott School for a short presentation and a Q&A session with about 40 ESC students and faculty. He encouraged students to look beyond the obvious questions and to "just get out there and do it."

Session offers portfolio critiques,
networking experience

Students looking to gain valuable feedback on their portfolio pieces from industry professionals will have the chance at the "Career Prep: Porfolio Evaluations" session. Local communication professionals will be on hand to critique portfolios, offer networking experience and conduct mock interviews. ESC to present first-ever "One to Watch" award

Lee WhitmanIn "Making Movies in the Digital Age," filmmakers Lee Whitman, Lonnie Quattlebaum and Rod Pocowatchit will discuss the transition from analog to digital moviemaking technology. Afterward, the Elliott School will honor Lee Whitman as the first "ESC's One to Watch," an award honoring outstanding professional accomplishment by a someone who graduated in the last 10 years. Whitman currently works as a contracted writer and producer for the Department of Defense in the Radio and Television Production Office. He recently won an Emmy Award for his Public Service Announcement spot, "BBB Military Line." For details on this session, check the schedule of events or download a PDF copy.
