Patricia L. Dooley
Professor & Director of Graduate Studies

Dr. Dooley teaches at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including courses in communication law, history and theory of communication, writing for mass audiences, communication and society, and gender and media. As the Elliott School's Director of Graduate Studies, she enjoys mentoring students with interests in graduate education. Before pursuing a career in teaching, she served as the director of the historic sites program at the Minnesota Historical Society, where she worked for 12 years. She joined WSU after a five-year stint at the University of Maine-Orono. Her publications include books and book chapters, articles, reviews, feature articles and reports, among other things. Her first book, Taking Their Political Place: Journalists and the Making of An Occupation, released in 1997, came out in paperback form in 2000. Journals that include her scholarship include Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly and International Journal of Press and Politics.
