Engineering Open House

Wichita State's Engineering Open House is one of the most important components to establishing a strong, innovative College of Engineering. This is our opportunity to share with the community our student projects, research, laboratories and activities for children. Join us each spring to celebrate the remarkable accomplishments are made here at the College of Engineering.

Project Exhibitions

The exhibition showcases student senior design and research projects from every engineering discipline at the College of Engineering. Many projects are interactive and have prototypes to demonstrate. Nearly all have real-world applications and are applicable to local industries and companies. We encourage you to spend as much time as you want listening to students, talking to them, asking questions, or just observing. Projects are located throughout Wallace Hall, Donald L. Beggs Hall and the Engineering Building.

Lab Tours and Activities

Laboratory tours are offered to the general public and to local school groups. The world-famous Walter Beech wind tunnel is open and often has demonstrations for visitors. Other labs include nanotechnology, advanced manufacturing, bioengineering, and composites among others. The College of Engineering is working to build the pipeline of future engineers and so we offer educational activities for children that teach basic engineering concepts: egg drop, gliders, circuits and more.

Awards Banquet

The Open House Awards Banquet is the following Saturday and is a time for students, faculty, and visitors to enjoy the evening with friends and colleagues. This is an important moment for students who presented their projects on the day of the exhibition, as they will be receiving awards provided by organizations sponsoring Open House. This year over $10,000 is awarded to students by sponsors, engineering departments and professional engineering societies.
