The Shocker New Venture Competition created by the WSU Center for Entrepreneurship inspires Kansas students to put entrepreneurial principles into practice...to spark an idea, develop a plan, pitch to investors and launch a new venture.
Students are encouraged to form teams of up to five members. At least one of the members must be enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student taking at least six credit hours in the 2014 spring semester at a Kansas college or university. December 2013 graduates are also eligible. Complete your Intent to Compete form now.
Palo Alto Software, a sponsor of the Shocker New Venture Competition, will provide free access to LivePlan software, to the first 100 teams filing Intent to Compete forms. LivePlan provides a step-by-step process in the development of a business plan. The software offers templates for financial projections and the analysis of accounting information in real time. Additional reference guides for the business summary and 10 page business plan are also available to contestants.
Each team must have a faculty advisor with an .edu email address. For your team to be officially registered, the faculty member must complete the Faculty Advisor form. Faculty Advisor's may serve as advisor to more than one team. The Faculty Advisor form must be submitted by 4 p.m. on Friday, February 28.
The New Venture Competition offers more than $25,000 in prizes. In addition to general awards for excellence, the 2014 competition will include these new prizes: Technology Innovation Award, Healthcare Innovation Award and Director's Awards. Winners of special awards are also eligible for general awards.
The Competition stives to identify new ventures that will create value and energize the Kansas economy. Business professionals, entrepreneurs, and investors play a vital role as judges in identifying these new ventures. Judges evaluations are based on the strength of a team's value proposition and the probability of a successful launch.
