WSU SHIFTSPACE Gallery is the School of Art, Design and Creative Industries off-campus student gallery located on Commerce Street - the heart of Wichita's vibrant gallery district. SHIFTSPACE Gallery earned its name from its early days as a "roaming" gallery. Moving from place to place, ever-changing, morphing, responding, shifting from space to space with each new exhibition. The gallery maintains this nomadic spirit in its newest incarnation with innovative exhibitions that explores the newest frontiers of contemporary art and design.
BFA Senior Exit exhibitions and MFA Thesis shows are usually held at SHIFTSPACE Gallery. It serves as a professional incubator for student exhibitions, collaborations, and myriad real-world learning opportunities.

In November 2013, WSU Shift Space hosts Dissociative: Pushing Against the Norm, a regional MFA candidate exhibition juried by Jodi Throckmorton, Curator, Ulrich Museum of Art, Wichita State University.
The exhibition seeks artworks in all media investigating the concept of dissociation by transgressing boundaries. What do we do to reject, remake, or reinvent the world around us? “Dissociative” can be innovative and/or disconnected, run against the grain, cross boundaries that seemed initially impenetrable, not go with the flow. What are you pushing against? Is this action cultural, emotional, formal, individual? This exhibition seeks to explore the risks and rewards that come with challenging and reinventing. Artists are encouraged to interpret the theme creatively. A Juror's Selection of $400 will be awarded to one entrant. The fee is $15 for up to five entries; entrants must be currently enrolled in an MA or MFA Studio Art graduate program in KS, CO, NE, MO, OK, SD, WY, NM, TX, IA, or AR.
