School of Music

Welcome to the School of Music at Wichita State University!

We offer you a unique environment of campus life in an urban setting, providing exclusive opportunities to talented musicians like you.

Wichita is the home of the Wichita Symphony Orchestra, Music Theatre Wichita, the Wichita Art Museum, and many other fine arts institutions. We are one of only two NASM accredited music schools in the state of Kansas; a “must” for the aspiring music performer or educator!

The WSU School of Music boasts a talented array of performers. Our faculty comprise the majority of principal players in the Wichita Symphony Orchestra, and many other positions in the orchestra are held by our graduate and advanced undergraduate students. Additionally, the Music Theatre Wichita pit orchestra is filled with faculty and alumni of WSU.

All these organizations are marvelous benefits to our students, faculty, and the community. The Wichita Symphony Orchestra performs eight subscription pairs of concerts per year and several pops concerts, where our faculty perform major repertoire on a regular basis. You will have the opportunity to hear your professors showcase what applied lessons are all about. There is no doubt; if you are an aspiring performer, this is the place for you!

Summer brings a change in musical style with five performances by Music Theatre Wichita. One of the finest theatre programs in the country, the Music Theatre Wichita boasts a summer cast of nationally auditioned singers/dancers and celebrities imported from New York or Los Angeles.

Our faculty are dedicated to preparing you for the professional world of music; be it performance, theory/composition, or education. Our passion is building your career as a musician – whether you are interested in instrumental, vocal, or keyboard, we have a place for you. With two bands, jazz band, orchestra, opera, choirs, and musical theatre, you will develop the skills to perform, educate and inspire the love of music in any career you choose to pursue.

We invite you to investigate and join our vision!
