Jeanne Vance is Assistant Professor in Music Education and Placement Coordinator. She graduated from Wichita State University in 1975, with a Bachelor of Music Education and a Bachelor of Music with emphasis in piano. Ms. Vance then earned a Master of Music Education in 1977 from Wichita State University. While at WSU, she studied piano with Francis Wallingford and Robert Hamilton. Jeanne’s experience in public schools spans 34 years, including Augusta Middle School and Central Middle School in Kansas City, Kansas. During a brief stay in Dallas, Ms. Vance taught piano at Tarrant County Junior College. She taught seven years in Colorado including a year at Beattie Elementary in Fort Collins and Carmel Middle and Harrison High School in Colorado Springs. Ms. Vance spent 20 years in Wichita Public Schools, USD 259, with 10 years as vocal director at Wichita High School North.
During her years as a music educator, Ms. Vance was active in state ACDA and MENC organizations, conducted a church choir, continued as a private piano teacher, and travelled to Europe with the Kansas Ambassadors of Music. In 1998 she earned a Master’s in Educational Administration and Supervision from Wichita State University and spent another 10 years as an assistant principal at Wichita Heights and Wichita Northwest High Schools. After retiring in 2008, Jeanne returned to USD 259 as a substitute teacher, became an avid golfer, and is a huge Shocker fan.
