Guidelines and Procedures

Deadline: March 15, 2018

Goal of fund:  To provide career enhancement and exceptional training opportunities for individual WSU performance majors, to honor the excellence of students and recent alumni of WSU, and to provide financial support in making the transition between training and profession.

Eligibility:  Graduate or upper class standing (junior or senior) and full time enrollment in one of the following degree programs; Applied Voice, Musical Theatre or Instrumental Performance.  Students must show exceptional career potential and have a 3.0 GPA in the area of major study.  Students may continue to apply for funds one semester after graduation but not thereafter.

Requirements:  Three (3) letters of reference supporting the student’s readiness and preparation to participate in the requested activity.  One reference may be the student’s primary teacher; two others may be from the program director or other recognized authority (conductor, performer, stage director, etc.).

Purpose for which funds may be requested:  To assist with travel expenses and application fees associated with participation in national or international professional conferences, auditions, competitions, training programs, and workshops.

Restrictions:  Students must provide documentation that they have applied to the program for which funds are being requested.  Funds will generally not be provided for local transportation (i.e. gas, tolls and mileage within 250-mile radius of Wichita); however, hotel, meal and fee expenses may be requested.  Funds will not be provided for use as scholarship, fellowship or for pursuit of graduate study.

Amount of awards:  Up to $1000 per student may be requested.  Generally awards will be in the range of $200 - $500.  Awards for graduating seniors and MM students will be limited to a maximum $500.

Distribution of awards:  Awards will be distributed quarterly on January 1, April 1, July 1, and October 1.  Awards will be allocated annually in the ratio of two singers to one instrumentalist.  Awards will be made at the joint discretion of the Chair of the School of Music and the Director of Opera, with the advice and consultation of the Dean of the College of Fine Arts.
