You can pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Performance or Theatre Design and Technology or develop a customized Bachelor of Arts degree. We also offer undergraduate certificates in Stage Management or Directing.

  • Each semester you will get to work on classical or contemporary plays, musicals, films, concerts, operas and other creative projects in our fully equipped 90 and 500 seat theatres.
  • You have opportunities to travel and learn through the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF), the United States Institute of Theatre Technology (USITT), and other nationally recognized organizations.
  • You get all the benefits of classroom and applied learning with the quality and value that WSU is known for.
  • You can apply for one of the many WSU Study Abroad opportunities.

A number of major electives are included in the degrees for the student to include courses specifically related to their area of interest. We offer a wide variety of course selections including: Stage Combat; advanced Stagecraft, Costuming, Scene Design, Lighting, and Directing; Scriptwriting; Styles in Acting; and several Voice and Dialect options.

Theatre performances during the year typically include two mainstage performances (or one mainstage and one feature film) and two black box 2nd-stage productions. 2nd stage productions are entirely student produced. As well, the B.F.A. degree culminates with a student-produced senior project.

Wichita State University produces motivated and energetic Theatre majors that possess an array of highly sought after skills, such as teamwork, public speaking/presenting, time and cost management, problem-solving, adaptability, and leadership. Our graduates go on to establish careers as actors, directors, stage managers, technicians, and a wide variety of other occupations in entertainment and public relations fields.

In order to be eligible for SCHOLARSHIP consideration, prospective students must AUDITION. Program and scholarship auditions are held in fall of each year or can be arranged by appointment. For more information, email Bret Jones.

JPEG ImageAs WSU Theatre continues to work toward professional and personal excellence, we want to extend thanks to you, our valuable audience members, patrons, parents, donors, and local businesses who have helped to make our students and program successful. Without community support, investment, and enjoyment, the arts as we know them would surely become obsolete. However, we can assure you that our performing arts will continue to delight, entertain, challenge, and affect both the Wichita community and the global one!
