Encore Scholarship

Encore Protection is proud to present our Victims of Drunk Driving Scholarship, worth $1,000. Intoxicated driving is one of the biggest — and deadliest — problems on America’s roadways. On average, drunk driving claims 28 lives a day; that’s more than one per hour. Annually, about a third of all motor vehicle deaths can be attributed to alcohol use. Police arrest about 1.1 million drivers annually who are driving impaired, but that’s only 1 percent of the 121 million adults who report driving under some level of intoxication. With so many drunk drivers on the road, there’s a good chance you or someone you know has been involved in an alcohol-related accident. In fact, it’s estimated that two-thirds of all drivers will be involved in an alcohol-related wreck in their lifetime. Here at Encore Protection, we know how devastating a drunk driving accident can be. Victims may find themselves permanently injured, affecting their performance at school or work. Families who are affected may find it difficult to pay for their student’s education on top of medical, rehabilitation and other bills. We want to help those affected by a drunk driving accident lead a successful life by easing at least some of the financial burden of college.

Financial Aid Opportunities for Students with Disabilities

There are many circumstances that can make financing college harder for disabled students. Disabilities often:

  • Prevent students from attending school full-time, making it harder to qualify for financial aid and scholarships reserved for those with full-time status
  • Prevent students from working part-time jobs to offset tuition costs
  • Require access to accommodations or support that are not provided or covered by schools
  • Require medical care that is not covered by school-sponsored insurance plans

Fortunately, there are many financing options and benefits available to disabled students. This is our guide to the opportunities out there. We’ll start with those that are available to students living with any kind of disability and then break down awards designated for students living with particular types of disabilities:

Scholarships for Hispanic Students

Scholarships and grants are an ideal way to help pay for tuition. They are essentially gifted funds based on financial need, cultural background, educational and civic achievements, athletic ability, hobbies, intended major, etc. Funds received do not have to be repaid, although some sources require students to give back to a community or organization as a condition of the scholarship or grant.

There are many opportunities for Hispanic students, but the trick is knowing where to look for the right scholarship or grant. Though high school guidance counselors and college financial aid offices are a good place to start, it helps for students to do research outside as well:

LA Tutors 123:

At LA Tutors, we believe that it’s more than just the grades that make a great well-rounded student. Each one of you is creative in his or her own way: some of you blog; others curate documentary photography on Instagram; still others find imaginative ways to solve problems in their public and private lives. Creativity is the air each one of us breathes, but sometimes we get so concerned with grades that we forget that imagination is our natural problem solver. One way to showcase your creativity is to innovate either by solving a problem, by designing something that helps others solve problems, or by enhancing our relationship with whatever matters to us. Innovation is what brings our technical skills and our hopes together in unique ways. It also provides opportunities for gaining real-working experience in a chosen field, and gives students the chance to connect with adults outside their circle who might be able to help students get into their top choice college or get an internship. In the end, innovation makes people look at the bigger picture, which is the best preparation for college and for life. We at LA Tutors are passionate about sparking the creative genius in students and would love to commend those outstanding students who have a made a difference in the lives of others in some innovative or technological fashion. In order to achieve this, we have established a scholarship for students who meet certain criteria.

The Tree Center Scholarship Program

Here at The Tree Center, we believe that there’s more to a well-rounded student than showing up and getting good grades. Whether you realize it or not, each one of you is creative in your own unique way: some of you have a blog; others have an eye for curating and documenting life in Instagram photos; and still others find imaginative ways to solve problems in their public and private lives. Creativity is the air each one of us breathes, but too often we get concerned with grades and tests that we forget that imagination is our natural problem solver.

One way to showcase your creativity is to innovate. This can be in the form of solving a problem in nature, by designing something that helps others solve a problem, or by enhancing our relationship with whatever matters to us.

Innovation is unique in that it brings together our technical skills, with our creativity, as well as our hopes for a better world. It also provides an excellent opportunity for gaining real world, working experience in a chosen field. It also gives students the chance to connect with adults outside of their circle who may be able to help them get into their preferred college or get an internship. At the end of the day, innovation forces people to look at the bigger picture, which is paramount to preparation for college and for life.
