Dr. Harrison Boughton taught voice and choral in the fine arts program at Wichita State University for 39 years. Described as a complete "minister of music," Dr. Boughton was an effective teacher, inspiring director and a caring and understanding counselor to his students. Off campus, he devoted much time to professional organizations and music judging. His wife, Patricia, also provided support for and remained very involved in the music program.
In May 2000, Dr. Boughton retired. This scholarship was established to honor his servitude and commitment that enabled WSU to become the fine musical institution it is today. Since retirement, Dr. Boughton has continued his passion for music as a guest clinician and instructor for various high school and college choirs.
