Fritz Snodgrass Scholarship

Fritz Snodgrass directed the Wichita State University track program from 1956-1967 and coached several nationally ranked athletes. Under his leadership, his 1966 team won the Missouri Valley Conference championships.

Prior to coming to WSU, Mr. Snodgrass logged 29 years in the prep ranks, 15 in the Pittsburg, Kan., public schools and 13 at Wichita High School East. During his stay at East High, he coached his track team to eight state championships, earned second place in four state meets and fourth place in one other state meet.

In honor of Mr. Snodgrass, Jim Hershberger initiated the Fritz Snodgrass Scholarship in 1980. Regarding the scholarship, former WSU director of athletics Ted Bredehoft commented, It is befitting that we honor a former outstanding mentor in this manner with a permanently endowed scholarship. Former track and cross country coach Herm Wilson agreed and hoped the athlete receiving the scholarship can live up to the example Fritz Snodgrass set as both a coach and a gentleman.
