John G. and Barbara McCune Scholarship in Liberal Arts and Sciences

After answering a recruitment ad, which stated, “work at Cessna during the day and get an engineering degree at night,” John G. McCune spent the next eight years doing just that. In 1959, he graduated from Wichita University with a bachelor degree in industrial engineering. He spent seven years as an engineer in the aircraft industry before entering the insurance business and founding McCune and Associates. He and his wife, Barbara, maintained close ties with WU as three of their children graduated from the university, inspiring the establishment of the John G. and Barbara McCune Scholarship in Liberal Arts and Sciences.

A volunteer for Exploration Place, Mr. McCune has remained involved with WSU, including the College of Health Professions Advisory Committee and the Foundation’s National Advisory Council. Involved on many philanthropic levels, Mrs. McCune is a community volunteer as well. Both are members of the Society of 1895.
