Histories of the men and women behind WSU's scholarships and fellowships

Robert and Darlene Anderson Lifeguard Scholarship

For a number of years, Robert and Darlene Anderson have been loyal patrons of the Heskett Center swimming pool. Always appreciative of the efforts of the student lifeguards, they decided to establish the Robert and Darlene Anderson Lifeguard Scholarship. Created in 2000, the scholarship is awarded to a student serving as a Heskett Center lifeguard.

Dr. Robert Anderson, professor emeritus of education administration and supervision, retired from WSU in 1992. A graduate of the University of Iowa, his teaching career spanned more than 40 years, including UI, the University of Nebraska and 25 years with WSU. His wife, Darlene, also a graduate of UI, earned her master’s in education from WSU in 1972. A school nurse with the Wichita Public School District, she retired in 1991.

Together, the Andersons have established numerous scholarships with WSU, committing themselves unconditionally to the future of the university and its students.
