Freshman Exemption Form

National research shows that freshman who live in the residence halls tend to experience greater academic and personal success during their college career. Our experience at Wichita State University has been consistent with these findings.

For this reason, WSU requires all first year students* to live in the residence halls unless they fall into one of the exempt categories listed below. If you do not fall into one of these categories and will be requesting an exemption from the freshman housing requirement, please check the space marked OTHER and explain your reason for requesting an exemption in the space provided..

*All first year students shall be defined as students who are entering the University within two years of their graduation from high school and/or who have less than thirty (30) college credits. (College credit earned while in high school does not apply)

You will receive an email from Housing and Residence Life stating whether your request for exemption has been approved or denied. Note that exemption is NOT automatic!

I understand that I will receive an email letting me know whether my request has been approved or denied. I also understand that if I have already signed a contract and am now trying to move out of on-campus housing, this form does NOT release me from any amount due or from the contract cancellation fee clarified in the cancellation section of my Housing and Residence Life contract.
