Mission Statement

Housing and Residence Life is committed to promoting the total University experience by providing a supportive living environment. The department offers three unique communities which are intentionally designed to foster academic success, personal growth and civic responsibility.

Housing and Residence Life encourages:

Academic Success by:

  • providing academic support services such as computer labs, study areas and ethernet connections
  • offering specialty/theme housing options
  • working collaboratively with and encouraging students to take advantage of academic resources on and off campus
  • training staff to recognize and address academic progress and needs
  • engaging students in meaningful conversations that foster learning outside of the classroom

Personal Growth by:

  • providing leadership experiences through volunteer and employment opportunities
  • facilitating lifelong friendships
  • educating students about individual differences and similarities
  • challenging students to accept and embrace diversity
  • developing students through programming
  • creating a sense of belonging through the intentional development of a caring community

Civic Responsibility by:

  • empowering students to become contributing members of their community
  • allowing students to develop lifelong skills that are vital to community membership
  • providing clean, safe and comfortable living accommodations that students are expected to help maintain
  • recognizing and supporting Wichita State University's unique mission as a metropolitan university
