Shared Leave - Application Process

A full online training is offered by Human Resources for anyone considering Shared Leave. Please complete the training. A smaller summary of the application procedures are listed below:
 

1. The employee who is requesting to be a recipient of Shared Leave begins the application process by submitting a formal request to Human Resources to be considered for Shared Leave benefits. It is important to submit a request as early as possible. They can be sent to Box 15 or faxed to 316-978-3201. Three forms are involved:

2. Requests are reviewed by a four-member WSU committee on a case-by-case basis. Committee members consider three broad factors:

  • Program eligibility
  • Nature of the condition
  • Documentation

3. The committee will try to meet within one week of receipt of documents and a letter will be sent within two days of that meeting.

  • If approved, the letter will explain the amount of Shared Leave approved and indicate the steps involved in requesting an extension, if needed.
  • If denied, a letter will explain why the request did not meet Shared Leave guidelines. Alternatively, it may indicate that additional information is needed in order for the committee to make a more informed decision.

Please note that all committee decisions are final. There is no appeal process.
