Unclassified/Faculty Promotions

  • An internal promotion of an unclassified professional employee may be made without a job search by using the following processes:
    • Discussion with the Dean/Director and the appropriate Vice President shall take place before initiation of an internal promotion.
    • Documentation to be presented to the appropriate Vice President should include justification for the promotion, annual performance evaluations for the previous two years, and a list of those individuals who are being considered for the promotion opportunity.
    • Internal promotions normally should be considered within an administrative unit, such as a college or school, department, or other functional organizational unit; however, this policy can be used to promote any current benefits-eligible unclassified professional employee of Wichita State University.
    • An informal review/interview process shall be used to ensure that all qualified individuals are considered for the promotion.
    • An internal promotion request must be approved in writing by the appropriate Vice President.  An internal promotion request should be submitted to the Director of Equal Employment Opportunity for authorization and the Director of Human Resources for information prior to final review and consideration by the Vice President.
  •   An internal promotion of an unclassified professional employee may be made without a search process.  When such a promotion ultimately creates a vacancy within the specific unit or elsewhere within the University, the vacancy created will be filled by the normal recruiting processes.
  • The unclassified professional employee must be hired through PeopleAdmin .
  • Completion of the OHR 200 form (PDF) or OHR 220 form (PDF) is required as well.
  • A background check could be necessary based on the individual to be hired. Human Resources will alert those in the hiring process of the need for and the outcome of the background check.
  • The University Policy concerning unclassified professional promotions is 6.16 / Internal Promotion of an Unclassified Professional.
