WSU Aircraft Icing Lab

Wichita State University has been a leading force in aviation icing research since 1984. Our research programs contribute to aviation safety and generate data for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which aids the rulemaking process governing icing regulations and certifications. We also work closely with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to develop numerical models that will lead to the design of safer aircrafts operating in the icing environments.

WSU has generated numerous reports and publications to the FAA, NASA and major conferences in the areas of droplet impingement, supercooled large droplet (SLD) studies, anti- and de-icing systems, shed ice trajectories, pilot simulators, aerodynamic testing and computational fluid analysis (CFD) studies.
