Refund Policy
and Advanced Tuition


Wichita State University's refund policy for international applicants (and agents) is as follows:

  • The US$100 Intensive English Tuition Deposit
    The Intensive English tuition deposit is refundable if:
    1) The applicant is not admitted to the Intensive English Language Center OR
    2) The applicant returns his/her unused I-20 and requests the cancellation of his/her admission at least 60 days before the beginning of the session for which he/she was ORIGINALLY admitted to the Intensive English Language Center. After the refund deadline, applicants are not eligible for a refund of the US$100 tuition deposit. If an applicant requests readmission for a future term, the Intensive English tuition deposit will be credited to a future semester but cannot be refunded at any time.   • The US$50 Express Mail Fee (US$60 Express Mail Fee Starting Fall 2012)
    The express mail fee is refundable if the applicant is not accepted for admission.  Otherwise, the express mail fee is not refundable.
  • Prepayments of Tuition (including the US$7000 Tuition Deposit for Nigerian Applicants)
    Applicants who wish to receive a refund of a tuition prepayment must return their unused I-20 with a letter requesting a refund. We will only accept a signed request from the applicant in order to refund a tuition prepayment. We cannot accept refund requests by e-mail or fax.  Please note that refunds may take up to 90 days to process.
  • The US$50 Undergraduate Application Fee (US$65 Undergraduate Application Fee Starting Fall 2012)
    The undergraduate application fee is not refundable - even if the applicant is not accepted for admission.
  • Refund Methods
    If an applicant qualifies for a refund, the money will be sent as follows:
    1) If the original payment was made by credit card, the refund will be credited to the same credit card.
    2) If the original payment was made by any method other than credit card, the refund will be returned by Western Union to the student who applied for admission (regardless of who actually paid the money).  The Western Union service charge, which varies according to the amount sent by Western Union, will be deducted from the total amount of your refund.  After the refund has been sent by Western Union, the student will be sent an email with the Money Transfer Control Number.   • Advanced Tuition  
    IMPORTANT NOTE: Students are NOT required to pay their tuition and fees before coming to Wcihita. However, some students elect to make a prepayment. If you decide to make a payment in advance, it will be used to pay for WSU tuition, fees, on-campus housing, and medical insurance purchased through the University. No portion of your prepayment will be refunded to you to pay for books, off-campus housing, personal expenses, medical insurance purchased off-campus, etc. For this reason, you should bring extra money to pay for these expenses. If the amount of your prepayment exceeds the amount you owe, any extra amount will be applied to your next semester's tuition.
