Ronald McDonald House Charities Wichita

Description: Description: For over 30 years, Ronald McDonald House Charities Wichita has been supporting and providing programs that directly improve the health and well being of children. Families are stronger when they are together, and their presence helps a sick child heal faster and cope better. While we cannot make medicine taste better or take away painful treatments, we can help lessen the burden and ensure families have the stability and resources to get and keep their child healthy and happy.

Open Door Community Food Ministry

Description: This is the largest community-wide food box program in the Wichita are providing nutritionally balanced emergency food assistance for individuals and families in need once per month. United Methodist Open Door began in 1965 as United Methodist Urban Ministry of Wichita by a group of Methodist clergy and laity who felt that the church should be more responsive to the advocacy needs of our society.

His Helping Hands

Description: His Helping Hands is a community service ministry of Central Christian Church to help those living in the Wichita area and Sedgwick county areas who are facing insufferable hardships, such as victims of national disaster, families living below the poverty line or those families considered to be ‘at-risk’. HHH provides help to those families by distributing needed clothing, furniture, and other household items that are gently used at no cost to the families.


Volunteer Activities: Sorting and shelving donated household and furniture items. Sorting and hanging donated clothing for Saturday distribution.

Girls Scout of Kansas Heartland

Description: Habitat for Humanity provides the nationally known programs which support families which are homeless and ‘at risk’. They also facilitate the ReStore, a donation-based retail store open to the public that accepts and sells gently used and new appliances, furniture and building materials.


Volunteer Activities: Depending on time of year volunteers may be involved with a Habitat Build. Most volunteers assist with ReStore sorting and organizing.

Description: Our mission is to provide comprehensive and compassionate HungerCare whenever and wherever it is needed to safeguard the health, well-being and productivity of food-insecure Kansas families and their children, as well as senior citizens, the homeless and the chronically ill and impoverished among us.


Volunteer Activities: Food bank volunteers will mainly be working with the weekend backpack program, packing bags for distribution.

Through The First Tee’s Life Skills Experience Program, The First Tee DRIVE after school program, or The First Tee National School Program, we strive to build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices to young people of all walks of life.
