History:

The building started in 1932 as the Alden Apartments, serving students of the Municipal University of Wichita and later Wichita State University. In 1982, the building became the home of WSU's new chapter of the national fraternity Alpha Tao Omega. When the chapter closed in 1996, Professor of Entrepreneurship Fran Jabara inherited ownership of the building, and he later donated the building to the university.

When 1947 University of Wichita graduate James Garvey passed away, Jabara approached the Garvey family and through those contacts the family decided to create the James Sutherland Garvey International Center to honor James and the family's long involvement in international business. The newly renovated center opened officially on June 20, 2003.
