History:

Blake Hall is home of the University's radio station - KMUW, FM 89.1 - which broadcasts local programming, news, and other features from National Public Radio. The East portion of the building was constructed in the early 1930's as part of a group of small retail stores that developed next to the new and growing Municipal University of Wichita. It began as a popular cafeteria and soda fountain named "The Bucket". Other shops were attached, and in its final retail configuration the building was a men's clothing store. WSU purchased the structure in the late 1970's and after extensive remodeling, it was ready for the offices and studios of KMUW. The building is named for Leslie M. Blake, long-time professor and department head of speech communication.
