History:
Office space became extremely limited after the university entered into the state system for higher education. Many of the departments under Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences were scattered all over campus. The Liberal Arts and Sciences Building was constructed as a general-purpose office and classroom building to bring together many of the LAS programs. The building was officially re-named in 1992 to honor Emory and Irma Lindquist. Dr. Lindquist was a former dean of the college and president of the university from 1963-1968. Lindquist Hall is the tallest building on campus and houses the LAS dean's office as well as the departments of English, political science, sociology, religion, the Hugo Wall School of Urban and Public Affairs, the School of Social Work, the School of Community Affairs and the center for women's Studies.
