History:

By the 1930's WU, with its expanded programs, had outgrown the library constructed for Fairmount College. Although it was the Depression, federal funds made possible a new building, and the Municipal University of Wichita Library was opened in 1939. Later, at the request of the alumni, it was given the name Morrison Library, named for the first president of WSU's predecessor Fairmount College. When the school's third library building, Ablah Library, opened in 1962, the 1939 building was renamed Morrison Hall. When WU became Wichita State University in 1964, Morrison Hall became the administrative center of the campus, and its familiar clock tower became a university landmark.
