About the Artist: Ursula von Rydingsvard creates sculptures made out of cedar wood which are reminiscent of topographical landscapes or architectural environments. Some of the sculptures call to mind everyday objects, such as tools or utensils. Von Rydingsvard's works are characterized by an intensity of labor. Although each piece is painstakingly shaped by the artist with tools and markings, the pieces do not seem constructed or "made" in an artificial way. Rather, they appear to be organic, inevitable manifestations of landscapes and natural processes marked by influences of weather and the accumulation of time.
