About the Artist: Ernest Shaw earned a degree in medicine in 1966 before turning to sculpture in 1973. Inspired by the surroundings of the Shawangunk Mountains around his home in New Paltz, New York, Shaw renders organic forms in a geometric manner. His Clusters IV, in which three long trunk-like forms support a bundle of angular elements, has the appearance of trees. The work was originally commissioned for the Wichita Headquarters of MISCO Industries, Inc. in 1982. When MISCO vacated the building, the sculptures remained until the structure was purchased by Emprise Bank in 1996. The bank gave the sculptures to Wichita State University during a remodeling.
