Student Organizations

SIGMA DELTA PI, the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society is an organization geared toward students of Spanish who have completed three years of study of college-level Spanish (18 semester credit hours) or the equivalent thereof, including at least three semester hours of a course in Hispanic literature or Hispanic culture and civilization at the junior (third-year) level, and maintained an Spanish GPA of 3.0 or better and an overall cumulative GPA of 3.2 or better. Graduate students who have satisfactorily completed two graduate courses in Spanish are also eligible. Delta Pi sponsors a number of cultural activities to promote student interaction and involvement in the Hispanic community. Members may apply to a wide array of study abroad and research awards. JPEG ImageEL CAFECITO is an informal weekly conversation table. Each meeting is under the guidance of an instructor. El Cafecito is a chance to meet with other students in an informal setting to further develop your Spanish comprehension and speaking skills in a relaxed setting. El cafecito meets every Thursday at 12.30 at Fast Break, RSC. For more information contact cuitlahuac.chavez@wichita.edu.

SPANISH CLUB is a student-run organization aimed at promoting cultural awareness and community among the student body through various activities and sponsored events. The Spanish Club also offers tutoring to students in the beginning levels of Spanish. Each semester the Spanish Club tries to sponsor multiple activities designed to engage students with each other, but also to expose them to the history and culture of Spanish-speaking countries. Some activities have included: movie nights, tours of the many sculptures at WSU created by Hispanic artists, and special guest speakers.
