Transfer Merit Scholarship FAQ


Who is eligible?

  • New, incoming domestic transfer students planning to enroll full-time beginning with the fall term (12 or more credit hours per semester).
    • Students must be directly transferring to WSU from another institution, fully admitted as degree-bound students and working on their first bachelor’s degree.
  • Must be transferring at least 12 credit hours
  • Eligible students must have less than 90 transfer hours at the end of the fall term prior to their initial semester at WSU. Students must submit updated college transcript(s) that includes all transfer credit hours prior to the fall entry semester at WSU.
  • Awarding begins in February for the following academic year and will continue until available funding is exhausted. Priority deadline for Transfer Merit Scholarships is April 1. Offers after April 1 will be based on available funds.

What does the Transfer Merit Scholarship cover?

  • Renewable scholarships of $2,000 or $3,000 based on merit
    • $3,000 for students with a 3.5 to 4.0 transfer GPA.
    • $2,000 for students with a 3.25 to 3.49 transfer GPA.

These scholarships can only be applied to direct costs; tuition, student fees and on-campus Housing. (Cannot be applied to deposits -- i.e. – housing deposit.)

What is the length of the Transfer Merit Scholarship?

  • This scholarship is awarded for two consecutive academic years (excluding summers) – or – to the point where the student earns the first bachelor’s degree, whichever comes first.
  • The student must also maintain good academic standing at WSU to maintain eligibility for this scholarship award.

What are the renewal requirements for the Transfer Merit Scholarship?

  • Maintain a minimum overall and semester GPA of 3.25
  • Enroll in and successfully complete at least 12 credit hours each semester (fall and spring)

Does WSU offer Transfer Merit Scholarships for spring transfers?

Students who choose to transfer to Wichita State during the spring semester will be considered for Transfer Merit scholarships awarded for the following fall.

  • Must be fully admitted & degree-bound for spring by the beginning of courses
  • Must be transferring at least 12 credit hours
  • Must have less than 90 transfer hours, including the current fall semester
  • Must have a minimum transfer 3.25 GPA
