The WSU Shocker MINDSTORMS program at Wichita State University includes several events designed to encourage students of all ages (K-12 and adult) to explore, experiment, and experience STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) teaching and learning in a hands-on constructionist environment.
The annual Shocker MINDSTORMS Challenge is a collaboration among the Colleges of Engineering and Education at Wichita State University, and local industry professionals. The Challenge provides young students with the opportunity for practical application and exhibition of math, science, programming, and engineering skills, as well as promoting teamwork, dedication, and sportsmanship. Teams of students in 4th-8th grades, or ages 9-14, from across the state of Kansas have the opportunity to complete Mission Challenges designed by WSU engineering students, and demonstrate what they have learned to professional engineers and educators in oral presentations, team displays, and notebooks. Sportsmanship and spirit are judged throughout the day to promote collaboration and teamwork. The MINDSTORMS Challenge began in 2001, and has grown to include 35 teams in 2012! The WSU Shocker MINDSTORMS Challenge is a community event and all are invited and encouraged to attend. This is the culminating event of many months of planning and learning by students, coaches, teachers, and volunteers at all levels. Please come join us as we celebrate their success.
The LEGO MINDSTORMS Summer Camps are designed for students who want to learn how to build and program robots. The camps are all "hands-on" and have sections and activities for both beginner and advanced users.
Introductory Robotics Workshops are one-day workshops designed for anyone who is interested in learning more about starting a robotics team and preparing them to compete in the MINDSTORMS Challenge.
