WSU is initiating the Fall Kickoff Challenge. This will be an informal competition open to all comers. There will be two competitions in the morning: Robotic SUMO and IR2L (International RoboticRace League). The competition is open to all (Adults and children of all ages). The competition rules are posted below for each challenge. The afternoon will have two workshops: Robolab Refresher and Tips and MLCAD Intro.

The competition involves two Sumo 'bots competing in a circular arena. The objective of the competition is to move your opponent out of the circular arena by pushing, overturning, or other means within the allotted bout time of two (2) minutes. The winner of each competition will be the Sumo 'bot left standing or functioning in the circular arena after pushing the opponent out of the arena or the last Sumo 'bot to leave the circular arena.

The competition involves two 'bots competing on an oval course. The objective of the competition is to complete three laps around the course ahead of your opponent. The winner of each competition will be the first 'bot to complete the three laps without any faults.

#MLCAD Workshops are held periodically to aid teachers in training middle school children in the use of this powerful, free set of software tools to design, analyze and build instructions for LEGO Mindstorms designs. The workshops cover material related to the installation and use of MLCAD, LPUB, LSYNTH, and L3PAO. The workshop offered this October is:

  • MLCAD 101 - This workshop covers the installation, personalization, and basic use of MLCAD. Participants are able to build a simple pyramid and a Technic Touch Sensor Bumper.
  • Course taught by Larry Whitman

The class is designed to provide an overview of the different programming modes of Robolab and concentration will be Inventor 4 level programming. Basic concepts of Robolab programming will be presented in conjunction with flow chart development. A time will be reserved for questions and answers. The workshop offered this October is:
