Awards Ceremony

# The 2008 WSU LEGO MINDSTORMS Challenge will end at 4pm on Saturday, February 16. The next hour is filled with bustling work as teams clear all of their equipment out of the Hesket Center Gymnasium and all personal belongings from the lounge areas. Judges and volunteers work quickly to tally all scores and put together the final counts for the Awards Ceremony. The media team works quickly to complete the Awards Ceremony slide show. After clearing out all equipment and belongings, teams and spectators are welcome to take their seats in Room 208 Hubbard Hall for the Awards Ceremony. Even though the Sportsmanship/Spirit judges have completed their judging please don't forget to be good sports and enjoy a wonderful finale to a great day. All participants are winners! Don't forget your cameras!

The ceremony will start with a photo slide show of Challenge Day. Don't miss this media treat to see and re-live some of the best and most "challenging" moments. All awards for the Apprentice and Professional levels will be given at the Awards Ceremony. Each winning team will be called to the stage, with their coach, to receive a LEGO trophy or plaque. Each individual team member and coach will receive a specially made LEGO trophy brick designed to snap on to their engraved LEGO Name Badge!

Apprentice Level Awards

Apprentice Award (3 Awards): 1st , 2nd and 3rd placeswill be awarded for the highest total points accumulated in the Apprentice level Missions, TableDisplay/Notebook, and Sportsmanship/Spirit Challenge. In order to be considered for this award, each team must finish 2 of the 3 Apprentice level Missions and complete the TableDisplay/Notebook, and Sportsmanship/Spirit Challenge. Winning teams are invited to display their robots at the WSU College of Engineering Open House on May 2nd,, 2008.

Individual Mission Awards (3 Awards): One award given to the best team at each of the three Apprentice level missions. These awards will not be based on points alone. Individual Mission Awards are Judges' Choice awards. Judges will be looking for teamwork and ingenuity.

Sportsmanship/Spirit Award (1 Award): One award is given to the team that earns the most points in the Sportsmanship/Spirit Challenge. Apprentice level and Professional level teams will all compete for this one award together. Points from Sportsmanship/Spirit apply toward the overall MINDSTORMS Awards in the Apprentice Level

Table Display/Notebook Award (1 Award): One award for the team earning the highest number of points for the Table Display/Notebook Challenge. Apprentice level and Professional level teams will all compete for this one award together. High scoring TableDisplay/Notebook Displays are invited display at the WSU College of Engineering Open House on May 2nd,2008.

Professional Level Awards

Apprentice level and Professional level teams will all compete for this one award together. Points fromSportsmanship/Spirit apply toward the overall MINDSTORMS Awards in the Professional Level.

Table Display/Notebook Award (1 Award): One award for the team earning the highest number of points for the Table Display/Notebook Challenge. Apprentice level and Professional level teams will all compete for this one award together. High scoring TableDisplay/Notebook are invited to display at the WSU College of Engineering Open House on May 2nd, 2008.

Presentation Award (1 Award): One award for the Professional level team earning the highest number of points on the Presentation Challenge.

MOC Awards (4 Awards): One award for the each category. Red � Freestyle MOC (any type of MOC including MINDSTORMS) Builder must be over 15 years old (yes adults can enter). Yellow � MINDSTORMS MOCs ONLY Builder must be between the ages of 10 - 15. Blue � Freestyle MOC (any type of MOC non-MINDSTORMS) Builder must be between the ages of 10 - 15. Green � Freestyle MOC (any type of MOC including MINDSTORMS) Builder must be under 10 years old (yes, your little brother or sister can enter).

Each Mission, Presentation, Table Display/Notebook, Sportsmanship/Spirit effort will be judged by professional engineers or educators and faculty from the Colleges of Education and Engineering.
