Professional Level: Hurricane Rescue Mission

Natural Disasters like hurricanes, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions can have a major impact on the United States. Sometimes we can launch rescue missions to save lives. Our mission is to rescue people after a major hurricane passes through and leaves them stranded in the hospital. You must design a rescue vehicle that can pass through the difficult levels of the course and accomplish its rescue mission. You may have to push yourself to save a life or get someone the medical attention they need.

Preparation for this kind of rescue will include a lot of challenges, but success will save lives and earn you the highest reward for bravery and courage.

Placement of the Cart

The cart can be placed in a way that it can be easily picked up (either forward or backward depends on the wish of participants since the cart has clamps on both sides which can be used to pick it up). A support will be provided at the back of the cart so that it doesn’t sway or move much.

Location of the Hospital Marked

Permanent Marker will be used to sketch the location of the cart and hospital (rectangular shape).

How exact will the cart drop-off at the hospital have to be?

If half of the cart is inside the rectangular box, the participant earns 50 points, and if the full cart is placed inside the rectangular box, the participant earns 150 points. The Judge will be determine the placement of the cart and award points.

Light Turn ON and Turn OFF Rules

In area 3, the Robot senses more damage. The robot stops (3) and signals to the control room by turning on a light for 10 seconds. Then the light should be turned off. If the robot continues to move on the course without switching off the light, there will be point deduction (50 points).

Rescue Vehicle begins at the starting point (1).

As soon as the mission begins, the road is divided into two paths, where one is damaged (2). The vehicle shouldn’t take the damaged diversion, instead it should take the straight line path where the road is clear.

The vehicle travels down the path where you see more damage. The vehicle stops and triggers a signal for 10 seconds (3) to alert others that you need more help.

As it travels down the path, the rescue vehicle faces an obstacle (4). It must push the obstacle away from the path.

Your vehicle travels past the obstacle and comes to a damaged bridge (8). Before getting to the person who is in the cart (5) and needs medical attention.

The cart must be attached to the rescue vehicle and driven towards the hospital (6).

The cart is detached at the hospital so that the person can get medical treatment and the rescue vehicle continues its path for more rescues.

On its way towards the end point of its mission, the road is again divided into two paths, one of them damaged, and again the rescue vehicle has to avoid the damaged road and continue on its original path.

It reaches the end point (7) and signals the control room with a light signal indicating that the mission is completed successfully.
