Additional Information about Challenge Day:
We are not able to provide laptops for team check-out. We WILL provide each team with electricity so that teams may bring a laptop of their own. Please bring your own extension cord and power strip if you have multiple laptops.
Don't Forget Batteries! Each team should bring their own supply of batteries both for their robots and their infrared tower. Also be sure to bring your IR tower, cable and software for programming your robot.
There will be a six foot table and several chairs available for each team to work on their robot. These tables will be located in the Heskett Center gymnasium in a common area for all teams. The missions will also be located in the Heskett Center gymnasium. There is a large seating area (bleachers) and plenty of room for spectators to wander and view the events.
A table will be set up for each team’s Table Display and Notebook. Your Table Display and Notebook may be used during your Presentation. Please leave a note on your table explaining that your display is currently being used in your Presentation. This will allow judges to skip your table until after your Presentation.
There will be two lounge areas and two classrooms that hold approximately 35 people each in the Heskett Center available for team members to use for lunch and snacking. In addition, there are lounge and commons areas located on campus where teams can gather to eat lunch. Both the lounge areas and classrooms will be open for teams at 8:30 a.m. on Challenge Day. A good idea is to have a few parents bring lunch, or set up for lunch, so that team members and coaches can have maximum time at the Competition. Please clean the areas when you are finished. Food and drink are not allowed in the gymnasium area.
The 2009 WSU Shocker MINDSTORMS Challenge will end at 4pm. The next hour will be filled with bustling work as teams clear their equipment out of the Heskett Center gymnasium, and remove all personal belongings from the lounge areas. Judges and volunteers will work quickly to tally scores and put together the final counts for the Awards Ceremony. Meanwhile, the media team will work quickly to complete the Awards Ceremony slide show. After clearing out all equipment and belongings, teams and spectators are welcome to take their seats in Room 208 of Hubbard Hall for the Awards Ceremony. Even though the Spirit and Sportsmanship judges have completed their judging, please don't forget to be good sports and enjoy a wonderful finale to a great day. All participants are winners! Don't forget your cameras!
The ceremony will start with a photo slide show of Challenge Day. Don't miss this media treat to see and re-live some of the best and most "challenging" moments. All awards for the Beginner, Intermediate, and Expert levels will be given at the Awards Ceremony. Each winning team will be called to the stage, with their coach, to receive a LEGO trophy or plaque. Each individual team member and coach will receive a specially made LEGO trophy brick designed to snap onto their engraved LEGO name badge!
