Division of Campus Life and University Relations (CLUR) Divisional Matrix Goal Statements
- A major priority for the Division of Campus Life and University Relations is the recruitment of qualified students to the University.
Enrollment Services plays the primary role in this function.
Marketing and promoting the University, developing linkages with high school and
community college counselors, working with business and industry, collaborating with the
various WSU Colleges, creating a strong orientation program are just a few of the activities
used to build enrollment for WSU. (Recruit Students)
- Working in partnership with Academic Affairs and Research, the Division of Campus Life
and University Relations seeks to find new and creative ways to retain enrolled students.
The Office of Financial Aid plays a key role in both the recruitment and retention of
students. Timely and appropriate financial aid awarding is critical to recruiting and
retaining students. Departments such as Counseling and Testing, Career Services,
Residential Life, and Disabilities Services are major contributors to retaining students.
These departments provide specialized support, a living/learning environment, and
specialized career development. All of these specialized emphases are designed to
retain students and help them persist to graduation. Many of the TRIO Programs also
focus on retaining students, including Student Support Services, McNair Scholars, and
Disabilities Support Services. (Retain Students)
- Student Life programs provide the broadest support for students.
These programs enhance out of class experiences for students by reinforcing what is
learned in the classroom, provide social and cultural learning opportunities, meet
recreational needs, develop school spirit, and create opportunities through clubs and
organizations to meet students' specialized interests.
Such departments as Center for Student Leadership, Multicultural Affairs, Heskett Center,
and Residential Life specifically focus on creating a healthy student life environment. (Retain, enhance learning -- students)
- The Division of Campus Life and University Relations also provides basic services for
students. Health care is a basic service that meets the medical need of students in a
high quality, low cost setting. The Child Development Center provides both a daycare and
learning facility for the children of our students and staff. And while housing and
Residential Life focuses on student development programming, they still are a basic
service provider. (Recruit, retain, enhance learning of students)
- The Division of Campus Life and University Relations is also responsible for marketing
the university and developing enduring relationship with donors, alumni, and the greater
community. Working with various constituent groups and the Alumni Association, both on
and off campus, the Division will use a variety of media strategies to communicate a
strong and consistent message about WSU. (Recruit and retain students, faculty, staff,
donors, alumni)
In the remaining sections of this report, these Divisional Goals/Priorities will be
translated into the values associated with the Accountability Matrix. Through each
department report, revised goal statements, action plans, and in some cases, evaluation
strategies will reflect the values and constituent groups represented in the Accountability
Matrix.
