You may appeal any Wichita State University parking citation or moving violation through the University Traffic Appeals Committee. Members of the committee are faculty, staff and students who meet monthly to consider written and verbal appeals of traffic tickets.
Appeal forms can either be picked up at the University Police Department or from the Student Advocate's office, room 200, Rhatigan Student Center, phone 978-3026. The Student Advocate can also assist you with filling out the form, and represent you to the appeals committee. The appeal form is available in PDF format at the bottom of this page.
All appeals are based on the W. S. U. Traffic Regulations. Your personal opinion that the regulation is unfair or that you feel there is insufficient parking on campus is not generally perceived as a legitimate reason to dismiss the ticket.
Some examples of appeals rarely granted:
"I didn't know the WSU Traffic Regulation or policy"
Being Illegally parked for only "a few minutes"
Justifying a violation by stating, "They got away with it, so should I."
Violation of disabled parking regulations
Failing to display or improper display of your parking permit
"Someone else (Mom, Dad, sister, friend, etc.) was driving my car that day on campus"
If you have any questions, please call the Parking Section at (316) 978-5530, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 4:00 pm.
Traffic Appeals Committee Meeting Times
There is no committee meeting in August or January. Appeal meeting times are 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Due to the construction at the Rhatigan Student Center, Traffic Appeals will be held at the Hughes Metropolitan Complex.
