PPMC Staff in Shocker Gear

The Public Policy and Management Center (PPMC) employs a permanent staff along with project associates in the field. Faculty and graduate assistants also provide research assistance, and the Center partners with content experts from other academic units at Wichita State University.

Morgan Barnes provides support and assistance with professional development, community service and programming for the Center by delivering professional trainings and conference planning. Prior to joining Wichita State, Morgan worked in higher education in several capacities, but always with the same goal: helping people change their story and make a difference. Morgan received her Bachelor's degree from Wichita State University in Integrated Marketing Communication.

Misty Bruckner Director

Misty Bruckner leads the programs and staff of the Public Policy and Management Center. For more than 20 years, she has served in various public service capacities including as the City of Wichita's Assistant to the City Manager and Neighborhood Services Director. Misty was recipient of the Excellence in Public Service Award from the City of Wichita and Bronze Medal Award for Public Service from the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office. She holds a Master of Public Administration from Wichita State University.

Darryl Carrington works to build bridges between Wichita State University and the neighborhoods surrounding campus, specifically the Fairmount neighborhood, through the Kansas Health Foundation Community Engagement Initiative. He is a dedicated community change agent with more than 10 years of experience in community mobilization including serving as President of the Fairmount Neighborhood Association. His ties to the University and the area surrounding it make him a key player for the success of the Shocker Neighborhood Coalition.

Craig Crossette assists in the management of an array of different public service projects for the PPMC. In addition, he provides research and other support for local government and nonprofit organizations. Craig has a passion for public service and sits as President for the American Society for Public Administration Kansas Chapter. Craig will receive his Master’s in Public Administration degree from the Hugo Wall School of Public affairs in spring of 2018.

Julian Dedeaux is a doctoral candidate of Psychology at Wichita State University, having received his MA in Criminal Justice and an MA in Psychology. Julian has engaged in research with community agencies by assisting with developing solutions based on empirical data in response to problems defined by the communities. Some projects include: Water Quality Analysis for Sunflower Community Action in response to poor water perceptions in southwest Kansas, Program Evaluation development for Real Men, Real Heroes, Inc. Mentoring and program research for the Shocker Youth Summer Camp Program.

Lisa Dodson served as a Project Associate for the Hugo Wall School for three years before joining the team full-time in 2016. As a Senior Project Manager, she provides program management, evaluation, consulting and research services. Prior to joining Wichita State, she owned an independent consulting firm and held roles at Kansas State University Institute for Academic Alliances, Kansas African American Museum and Tabor College. Lisa earned a Master of Economics and Master of Education, both from Wichita State University.

Paula Downs joined the Hugo Wall School in 2012 with more than 25 years of experience in the public sector, 13 of those as a project manager. In her current role as Professional Development Manager, she oversees special projects; develops and delivers training on a wide range of topics; and assists local governments and nonprofits with board trainings, strategic planning, facilitation services and professional development. Paula holds a Master of Public Administration from Wichita State University.

Sarah Shaffer provides research, training and support for local government and nonprofit program evaluation, research and policy analysis at the PPMC. Sarah’s passion for public service can be recognized in her previous work experience, including as Research Assistant for University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita, Senior Accountant for Sedgwick County, KS, Psychosocial Group Coordinator for Mental Health Association of South-Central Kansas, and Children’s Education Specialist for Kansas Children’s Service League. Sarah holds BA and MA degrees in Sociology from Wichita State University.

Kayla Vix manages marketing activities and coordinates events for the Public Policy and Management Center. In addition, she provides research and creative support for special projects. Kayla’s background includes web product marketing and academic writing and research. She also enjoys serving the communications efforts of various civic organizations on a volunteer basis. Kayla holds a Master of Arts degree in Linguistics from the University of North Carolina and Bachelor of Arts degrees in English and Biblical & Religious Studies from Tabor College.
