1895 - 1907 Miranda Capen (Dimond) Morrison
Miranda "Minnie" Capen (Dimond) Morrison was born in Enfield, Massachusetts, August 23, 1841, and married Reverand Nathan Jackson Morrison July 8, 1863. The couple would later play instrumental roles in the history of three colleges, Olivet, Drury, and Fairmount. Miranda died February 11, 1926
1907 - 1914 Louise Margaret (Singer) Thayer
Louise Margaret (Singer) Thayer was born in Waterville, Ohio, in 1855. She graduated from Oberlin Academy in 1875 and then attended Oberlin College for one year. There, she met Henry. Henry and Louise were married June 20, 1883 in Weston, Ohio. Louise died October 29, 1942
1914 - 1922 Mabel (Stone) Rollins
Mabel (Stone) Rollins was born May 18, 1873, in Haverhill, Massachusetts. Mabel served as a librarian in Haverhill, and while attending a conference met her future husband. Walter and Mabel were married September 14, 1898. Mabel Rollins died March 8, 1958.
1922 - 1927 Virginia Joyce (Crafts) Finlayson
Virginia Joyce (Crafts) Finlayson was born in Grass Lake, Michigan, on July 12, 1890. She received her teaching certification from Michigan State University. After a four-year engagement she married John Finlayson. Virginia Finalyason died in 1987.
1927 - 1934 Alice (Robbins) Foght
Alice (Robbins) Foght was born in Ord, Nebraska, in 1878. She attended Nebraska Wesleyan College and married Harold in 1897. Alice Foght founded the Dames in 1928, now called Wichita State University Women's Association. She died in Mound, Minnesota, in 1952.
1934 - 1949 Effie (Nebeker) Jardine
Effie (Nebeker) Jardine was born in 1882 in Laketown, Utah. She attended Utah State Agricultural College (Utah State University) where she met her future husband, Bill. They were married in 1906. Effie Jardine served as First Lady to Wichita University for fifteen years.
1949 - 1963 Sarah Grace (Hyde) Corbin
Born May 8, 1919, in Wichita, Sarah Grace "Sally" (Hyde) Corbin, at age thirty,ï¿½became the youngestï¿½First Lady to the university. She received her degree from Stanford University. Sarah Grace and Harry Corbin were married in the summer of 1940. She died at age sixty-six in 1985, after a long battle with muscular dystrophy.
1963 - 1968 Irma Winifred Eleanor (Lann) Lindquist
Irma Winifred Eleanor (Lann) Lindquist was born on September 29, 1909, in Marshall County, Kansas. She graduated from Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas with a degree in biological science. She obtained her master's degree in 1938 from Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing in Cleveland, Ohio. She met Emory at a college alumni meeting in Kansas City in 1941 and they were married on July 17, 1942. Mrs. Lindquist died while living in Lindsborg, Kansas, April 29, 2007.
1968 - 1983 Rowena Erle (Osborn) Ahlberg
Rowena Erle (Osborn) Ahlberg was born October 5, 1916, in Dewey, Oklahaoma. Rowena attended the University of Wichita where she first met Clark Ahlberg. Clark and Rowena were married on August 8, 1941, in Marcellus, New York. She began her fourteen year tenure as a presidential partner in September, 1968. Rowena Ahlberg died January 26, 2002.
1983 - 1993 Joan Elizabeth (Gregory) Armstrong
Joan Elizabeth (Gregory) Armstrong grew up in Benton Harbor, Michigan where she graduated from high school in 1957. She attended Olivet College and earned her degree and a teaching certificate. In 1974 she married Warren Armstrong. She served as First Lady of Eastern New Mexico University before becoming Wichita State's tenth First Lady. Mrs. Armstrong makes her homeï¿½in Afton, Oklahoma.
1993 - 1998 Margaret Ann (Romeo) Hughes
Margaret Ann (Romeo) Hughes was born and grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She earned degrees from Marquette University, the University of Texas at El Paso, and Northern Arizona University. Margaret Ann and Eugene Hughes were married on September 12, 1992. She began her Wichita State University presidential partnership role on July 1, 1993. Dr. Margaret Ann and Dr. Eugene Hughes live in Flagstaff, Arizona.
1999 - 2012 Shirley Ann (Malone) Beggs
Shirley Ann (Malone) Beggs was born in Galatia, Illinois in 1942. She met Don Beggs on a shopping trip in 1959 and after a four-year courtship they were married in 1963. Shirley completed her degree fifteen months later at Southern Illinois University and received her master's degree in language arts in 1968. Her tenure as WSU’s First Lady began on January 1, 1999 proceeded by thirteen years of dedicated service to the university. Shirley and Dr. Don Beggs currently reside in Bloomington, IL.
2012 - Present Deborah (Davis) Bardo
Deborah (Davis) Bardo was born in 1953 in Lowell, Massachusetts and grew up in Wichita, KS. She earned an associate’s degree in secretarial studies, a bachelor’s degree in business education and a master’s degree in communication, all from Wichita State University. Deborah and John met on the campus in Neff Hall in 1974 and married in 1975. She is currently serving as WSU’s First Lady with her tenure beginning on July 1, 2012.
