Research, public service, and other sponsored programs help fulfill the University's diverse mission. Sponsored programs are scholarly, professional, and creative activities that University personnel conduct with support from external funding such as grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements.
Last year, WSU personnel were awarded more than 250 competitive sponsored awards valued at over $43 million. Many of these support programs involved collaboration among other universities or investigators, both national and international. A growing number focus on economic development, technology transfer, faculty development, and K-12/university partnerships. This office serves as a focal point for research collaborations for the university.
In accomplishing this mission, ORA has dual roles—facilitation and compliance. ORA facilitates research through the identification of funding opportunities, submission of proposals and securing financial support. ORA is also responsible for ensuring accountability, compliance, and stewardship for sponsored programs as directed by all applicable Federal, State, and University policies, procedures and regulations. ORA also provides accounting support for the fiscal management of funded projects to reduce the administrative load on researchers, project directors, and departmental support staff.
Wichita State University has centralized research administration of sponsored programs through the Office of Research Administration. This centralized model combines pre- and post-award activities in one location for the faculty’s convenience. Other support functions such as research payroll, contracts, tech transfer and compliance are housed within this central department.
Internal Awards
