"All of the simple tools (e.g., hammers and crowbars, etc.) have already been invented, and future engineers must provide very advanced solutions to very complex technical problems."

About the Science Engineering Educational Development for Students (SEEDS) program

SEEDS is a grant funded program offered through the College of Engineering at Wichita State University. The objective of SEEDS is to promote science, technology, engineering, and math skills. The SEEDS program is now serving all children in the K-12 grade range.

Grades K through 5 is a magical time in a childs life. While few children know exactly what they want to be when they grow up, it is imp
ortant they realize that everyone has the ability to be an engineer or a scientist.

Grades 5 through 8 are very important years in the lives of children. Soon students and their parents will make decisions about what classes they will attend in high school. Options may include advanced mathematics, lab science classes, and many more. Through our Switched On Saturday events, SEEDS gives children and their parents the opportunity to explore some exciting technology and science based topics prior to making decisions about high school courses. Children may find that they have a great interest in an area that they had previously never considered.

Grades 9 - 12 are pivotal for most young adults. While it is possible for someone to decide later to enter a STEM occupation, it becomes much more difficult without the proper foundation. We feel that continuing to show young adults that science, technology, engineering and math can be fun is very important during this period. Often students lose the real world uses for the math they are learning. The SEEDS program continues to show fun, real world, hands on uses for the things that are learned at this level.

With a proper science and math foundation. Young adults can make informed decisions about their future carreer.

Because SEEDS is a grant funded program all SEEDS activities are free to the participants.
