Spring 2018 Event Schedule 

SEEDS is a program of the WSU College of Engineering, where 4th-8th graders learn STEM concepts while engaging in fun, hands-on learning activtities led by WSU college students.

Registration for events will open on a rolling basis to ensure broad participation. We are using a new registration this year. Please click on the appropriate link. Events will be held on the WSU Campusunless otherwise indicated. 

Styrogliders

Students will learn concepts of aerodynamic design as they design and build airplanes out of styrofoam plates.

Rube Goldberg Design 

Students will learn about the basic kinds of machines and transfer to energy as they design and build crazy contraptions out of household odds and ends.

Clever Copters

Students will learn about potential and kinetic energy as they design and build and test rubber-band powered helicopters.

SWE Engineering Expo

No registration is required for this annual event held at Century II Exhibiton Hall, which features hands-on activities for kids in grades K-8 to learn how engineering relates to the world around us.

Build-A-Blade -- This event is cancelled. 

Students will design, build, test and measure energy created by wind turbines built from household materials.

Solar Energy Discovery

Students will celebrate Earth Day (a week early) by learning how solar cells convert solar energy to electricity by observing a working solar-power installation and experimenting with hands-on solar energy circuit kits. This session meets at University United Methodist Churhc, where a roof-based solar installation is operated across from and in partnership with Wichita State.

Shocker MINDSTORMS Challenge

No registration is required for this public event in which teams of 3rd through 8th graders from area schools put their LEGO Mindstorms robot programming to the test on obstacle courses.

Scratch-a-Thon 

Wichita State College of Engineering will host its premier Scratch-a-thon where elementary school students who have learned how to code in Scratch will get the chance to apply their skills in our day of mini-competitions.  This is event is only open to children who have learned Scratch already.
