Wichita State University Employee Recognition Program

• Length of Service is calculated for determining service recognition for state and affiliated benefits-eligible employees. Time counted will be from the original date of hire in a benefits-eligible position. An employee who earns sick and/or vacation leave is considered to be benefits-eligible.
• Service Credit is for calculation of state classified longevity bonuses. Service credit differs from length of service in that temporary time before April 30, 1984 is counted in this calculation.
• Bender of Twigs is for the purpose of honoring state and affiliated benefits-eligible employees for 25 years of service to Wichita State University. Some exclusions and time at other state agencies would not be included in calculating for Bender of Twigs. A list of previous Bender of Twigs is available.
• Dates for Service Recognition: Service recognition ceremonies are held in September. As of 2005, September 1 is the cutoff date in figuring length of service. For example, employees who reach anniversary dates from Sept. 2, 2009 to Sept. 1, 2010 will be recognized in September 2010. Note: June 30 is used as the cutoff date for the 40-year service recognition that the Governor sponsors each year in Topeka.
