Assessment of Student Learning

To fulfill its mission the University believes that the faculty, with input from administration and students, should have the fundamental role in creating and maintaining a systematic assessment of student learning.

At Wichita State University all academic departments and units within the Division of Academic Affairs and Research are accountable for systematic assessment of student learning for their areas. There is no centralized assessment center; however, there are limited funds available to assist departments in implementing their assessment plans. Each year there is a Call for Proposals from the Associate Provost. Departments are awarded grants (usually not exceeding $1,500) on a competitive basis. To receive funds, departments must submit a copy of their assessment plan, feedback and changes from the previous plan and a proposed budget. If accepted, the funds are transferred to the department upon completion of the assessment activity. Applicants should also contact their college’s Dean’s Office for additional assistance.
