Wichita State University's sport management program has the distinction of being approved by the Sport Management Program Review Council established by, the North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM) and the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE). Students pursuing degrees in sport management gain academic and practical preparation for careers in the management of sport entertainment, sport participation and sporting goods organizations. Wichita State's sport managment program is housed in the College of Education.
Admission Requirements
The M.Ed.-Sport Management program has reached capacity for 2008-09.
The review of applications for 2009-10 will begin in February 2009.
Graduate sport management policy calls for the admission of no more than 30 candidates per academic year. Candidates will be evaluated by members of the sport management graduate faculty. All candidates will be required to have an earned undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited institution and a grade point average of 2.750 (4.000 system) for the last 60 hours of course work, in accordance with WSU graduate policy.

Letters of application should address the rationale for the candidate's interest in the program, reasons why the candidate believes he/she is qualified to succeed in the program and goals the candidate may have upon completing the program. Recommendation forms should come from individuals (e.g. work supervisors, college professors) who can speak to the candidate's ability to successfully complete the program.

Graduate Assistantships
A number of sport-related graduate assistantships are available at WSU. Typically, sport management students secure these positions in one of three settings - the athletic department, the Heskett Center (campus recreation facility) and the Department of Sport Management. Each unit selects is own GAs, so separate applications are necessary if candidates hope to receive considerations for a variety of positions.
Grad assistants in athletics may serve in one any of a number of areas including, but not limited to, media relations, marketing and promotions, and events/operations.
The athletic department is no longer accepting applications for graduate assistants for 2007-8.

The M.Ed.-Sport Management program requires 36 credit hours - 30 hours of course work and a six-credit hour internship. In addition, the program requires students to earn "C" grades or better on a number of specific assessments that are administered within the required courses. Finally, the program requires that all students pass a final written examination covering all required course work during their final semester prior to graduation.

The student's academic advisor must approve all elective courses selected. Common electives are listed above. Other popular electives include classes from disciplines such as management, marketing, human resources, and communication.
Students must complete 24 credit hours before enrolling in KSS 847-Internship. All students are required to devote a minimum of 810 hours "on the job" as interns, so KSS 847 is typically a two-semester experience.
All students are required to submit a plan of study to the Graduate School. The plan details how the student will meet program requirements and must be approved by the student's assigned advisor and the program's graduate coordinator before it goes to the Graduate School.
Internship
All students are required to complete an internship experience, working with a sport organization a minimum of 810 hours total. Typically, students enroll in three credit hours of KSS 847 for two consecutive semesters to meet this requirement. Students are required to have completed 24 hours of their master's program prior to enrolling in the internship.

Graduation Requirements
