SUMMER PROGRAM INSTRUCTORS 

Position: Upward Bound Math Science Instructors needed June 13, 2016-July 19, 2016.

Hours per Week: 5-10; Pay Rate: $18-$20/hour

Function:  Provide engaging instruction in the respective area of expertise to eligible high school students interested in math and science. The UBMS curriculum is driven by hands-on experiences, the expertise and passion of thE instructors, and the curiosity of the students.

Positions Available: Biology, Chemistry, Research Methods, Scientific Literature, Intro to Engineering, Public Speaking & ACT Prep.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field (Secondary Teaching Certificate or Master’s preferred)
  • Teaching experience and excellent instruction skills at the high school/college level with emphasis on the hands-on approach
  • Ability to create a quality, innovative curriculum, based on the adopted Kansas College and Career Ready Standards
  • Familiarity with TRIO Programs or federally funded educational programs for limited-income, first-generation, and/or disadvantaged students

SUMMER RESIDENTIAL STAFF

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College students with at least Junior standing, Senior standing for Supervisor position
  • Education, engineering, mathematics, science or related majors
  • Strong foundation in college level math, science and computer science
  • Computer literacy
  • Ability to work with diverse populations
  • Prior tutoring (paid or volunteer) experience preferred
  • Interest in working with high school students
  • Strong communication skills
  • Must live in during summer program

COMPENSATION:
• Residential Tutor Counselors  $1000 – 1200 per month, plus room & board
• Residence Hall Director      $1200 – 1300 per month, plus room & board

DURATION: 8 weeks – June 1 – July 30
