POSITION: Upward Bound Math Science Summer Instructor 

DATES NEEDED: June 8 - July 15, 2015

*Academic Calendar – 6-week program: 5 weeks of instruction and 2 days of finals.
*Classes – Monday, June 8 thru Tuesday, July 10
*Midterms & Mid-Summer Evaluations – Monday, June 22 and Tuesday, June 23
*Finals & Evaluations – Monday, July 13 and Tuesday, July 14
*World Day – Saturday, June 27 (evening)
*Research Symposium – Friday, July 10 (all day)
*Banquet – Wednesday, July 16 (evening)

Hours per Week: 5 to 10

Compensation: $18 to $20 an hour

Location: Wichita State University Campus

Provides engaging instruction in the respective area of expertise to eligible high school students interested in math and science during the Upward Bound Math Science (UBMS) summer program. The UBMS curriculum is driven by hands-on experiences, the expertise and passion of the instructors, and the curiosity of the students.

*Environmental Science, Anatomy & Physiology
*Chemistry, Physics and Forensic Science
*Science Literature, Research Methods
*Computer Literacy/Programming, Animation
*Intro to Engineering, Latin, ACT Prep


*Bachelor’s Degree in related field (Secondary Teaching Certificate or Master’s  preferred)
*Teaching experience and excellent instruction skills at the high school/college level with emphasis on the hands-on approach
*Ability to create a quality, innovative curriculum, based on the adopted Kansas College and Career *Ready Standards
*Familiarity with TRIO Programs or federally funded educational programs for limited-income, first-generation, and/or disadvantaged students

POSITION: Summer Residential Staff 


Duration: May 27 – July 22 (8 weeks)

Hours Per Week: Live-In Residential position  with one-day off.

Tutor Counselors $1000 – 1200/ month, plus room & board
Residence Hall Director $1200 – 1300 / month, plus room & board


*College student with at least Junior standing
*Senior standing for Supervisor position
*Education, engineering, mathematics, science or related majors
*Strong foundation in math, science and computer science
*Ability to work with diverse populations
*Prior tutoring (paid or volunteer) experience preferred
*Interest in working with high school students
*Strong communication skills
*Must live in during summer program
