Applying for Financial Aid

Students can apply for financial aid online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Students are encouraged to apply online because the application will be processed faster. If you prefer to file a paper application you can request one from the Office of Financial Aid. If you need assistance filling out the application, you can make an appointment with a financial aid counselor. Students can apply for financial aid before they are admitted, but their aid will not be fully processed until they are fully admitted.

Individuals who have experienced a severe financial circumstance (layoffs, medical, divorce, etc.) should be encouraged to speak with a financial aid counselor. Based on the circumstance, a financial aid representative generally will counsel students to apply for a Special Circumstance evaluation. If deemed appropriate, WSU can re-evaluate a student's financial situation, and based on the evaluation, additional federal aid may be available to them. Any financial aid counselor can assist those students.

Applying for Scholarships

Students 24 years of age or older are encouraged to apply for the Returning Adult Scholarship. To apply, submit a typed, one-page personal statement highlighting your special interests, talents and goals. Please include long-range goals, both academic and career based. The personal statement allows you to provide additional information for consideration by the scholarship committee. The University’s scholarship committee will check the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to verify your financial need information. Your scholarship will not be reviewed until you are fully admitted to the University.

Taking Math and English Placement Exams

Students who have not taken the ACT or SAT within the last two years must take English and math placement exams. Test dates are scheduled preceding registration, are listed in the schedule of courses, and cost $4 per test. Students do not need to register for the exams.

Students who have English and math transfer credits will need to work with their academic adviser to determine if they are required to take the placement exams.

Advising

First-time students and transfer students should meet with an academic adviser to create a class schedule and plan their academic futures. Enrollment is done online and your adviser will instruct with this process.
