Fill It To the Brim

June 5–June 29, 2014
Ulrich Underground: Grafly Gallery

The Ulrich Museum of Art is proud to present this exhibition of artist-made hats that honor Ruth Martin, a beloved member of the arts community and an unfailing supporter of the programs and exhibitions at the Ulrich.  Martin has always been passionate about the arts, but it was after her retirement from elementary education that she became a steady and sunny presence at every artist talk, gallery opening, and Final Friday in Wichita.

Martin’s strength and radiance in defiance of her struggle with ovarian cancer serve as an inspiration to the community—so much so that a group of talented, local, artists including Chris Brunner, Curt Clonts, Marc Durfee, Connie Ernatt, and Randy Regier, with the support of Jack Kellogg of Hatman Jack’s hat shop, decided to make Martin their muse and create one-of-a-kind hats for her.  Each hat is a thoughtful reflection on the rush of creativity that Martin’s presence brings to the community and worthy to be worn on such a very important head.
