Wellness Services creates opportunities and experiences that EDUCATE, EQUIP, and EMPOWER students.  We believe that learning about self-care, life balance, teamwork, and healthy interactions with others is an essential part of a student’s education.

Resources focused on student success and retention, especially first generation and under-served students

  • Develop comprehensive assessment plan for Wellness Services Unit that addresses link between services offered and retention.
  • Offer services that specifically address common reasons for a lack of retention or student success.
  • Assess the specific needs of first generation and underserved students in the areas of wellness.
  • Ensure wellness department staff are trained to recognize the specific needs of first generation and underserved students.
  • Build parent and family programs which promote the connection between wellness learning and retention.

Every student provided a leadership and/or experiential learning opportunity

  • Each department will offer applied learning and/or leadership opportunities in the form of internships, practica, student employment, or professional observation.
  • Intentionally include student membership on committees, task forces, and decision-making bodies in order to promote learning regarding leadership activities and gain valuable input.
  • Develop and assess learning objectives for each leadership or experiential opportunity.

Collaborative relationships across campus focused on student engagement and success

  • Establish Wellness Services Advisory Committee.
  • Develop wellness learning objectives and syllabus statements for use in academic courses.
  • Participate in Admissions Roadshows and on-campus visit days to educate students and families about the importance of health and wellness activities/services.

Embrace innovation and creativity for current departments/functions

  • Create new programs and organizational partnerships in the development of a campus Wellness Center.
  • Develop services which match the assessed health and wellness needs of the campus community.
  • Offer regular forums and information distribution regarding assessment of campus wellness needs and services.
  • Establish additional ways of serving students online.

Create a campus environment that supports the well-being of individuals across their lifespan

  • Serve students by offering sports and fitness programs, mental health counseling, health services, and assistance in accommodations for disabilities.
  • Expand Wellness Living Learning Community to include additional aspects of wellness.
  • Offer education and training opportunities for the University community to recognize and assist students in distress.
  • Develop a centralized Prevention and Health Promotion unit of Wellness Services.
